MediaSmarts has launched a new resource called Check First. Share After. to remind Canadians of the importance of checking information about COVID-19 before sharing it.
The web page features videos and tips on how to get accurate information about COVID-19, plus advice on what to do if you see misinformation online.
What you share matters more than ever because:
Sharing bad information about health issues can lead others to do things that can cause real harm. And can even be deadly.
Even if we think it’s harmless, false content creates clutter and makes it more difficult for the good stuff to get through.
Please share only accurate and truthful information.
Researchers found that reducing bad information by just 10% has a significant impact on how severe the pandemic is.
If you want to help, here’s what you can do:
1. Share responsibly. Check first, share after.
2. Call out false content when you see it.
3. Help us educate as many people as possible about the dangers of misinformation.
